Miss Dorothy Draper

Have you ever been asked “Who would you want to meet dead or alive?”  Easy.  Dorothy Draper.  She was the original Martha Stewart.  Dorothy did it all!  She was an incredibly well known designer who has been credited by many designers today with being their inspiration.  She wrote hostess books, she really urged women to try DIY (do it yourself) projects, she started “In the Pink” beauty brand selling soaps, dusting powder, bath oil, etc…, she designed aircraft interiors, and in my opinion made bold and large scale patterns okay!  The doors she designed would be enough to impress but the graphic patterns on the floors, ceiling, furniture, and any other square inch made every project truly special.  Oly Studio has a stunning chest of drawers that is reminiscent of Dorothy Draper.  Bold, high style, and high quality.  See some other unique Oly Studio pieces at Urban Dwellings Design.

Boy Meets Girl

Barbara Cosgrove is another great local find.  I chose to feature this pair of table lamps because they make me smile.  She has an elegant collection with great price points but these lamps, well, where else can you find them?  They are glazed porcelain, 28″ tall, with a sheer metallic shade.  You can pick them up at Urban Dwellings Design but be sure to check out the entire collection on her website.

Ceiling Make-Over?

These are the most amazing wall tiles I have ever seen.  Why?  Because they are wood frames with painted burlap attached to them.  In the late 19th early 20th century they were used as ceiling tiles in a Florentine home.  Each “tile” is 45″ x 45″ and incredibly priced at $325.  You can’t buy original artwork of that size anywhere.  Especially antique artwork!  They come in a set of 10.  Use them to fill a large wall or as ceiling tiles.  Be sure to look through Roundtrip Imports entire website for more detailed photographs.  Great local shop!
